Dear
Parents/Guardians:
With
the opening of school in September, your child will be entering
kindergarten, the beginning of formalized learning. We all share the
same desire that this first year and subsequent years of school will be a
happy and successful time.
The following will provide you with the answers to some of the things
you might be wondering about and needing to know to help to make the
first week easier.
Meeting only for parents/guardians
are from 9:30 - 10:15 am in one of the kindergarten classrooms (Signs
will be posted). We appreciate if you can arrange your own baby sitting,
as we are unable to provide babysitting for 30 kindergarten children,
plus any pre-school siblings. We will however have limited babysitting
available in our Music Portable (far north) with a volunteer parent.
Should you require this service, please contact Darlene Gifford, our
school secretary, as soon as possible, to arrange for one of the 15
babysitting spots. A convenient time for a student/teacher interview, to
be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, will be arranged on Tuesday,
September 5.
- WEDNESDAY,
THURSDAY& FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th-8th - STUDENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Kindergarten children are not at school these days,
except for their interview. On these days our kindergarten teachers,
Mrs. Leach and Mrs. Pilgrim will hold student interviews in the
kindergarten classrooms. This is intended to acquaint your child and
family with your kindergarten teacher and acquaint you with our school.
It is also intended to help identify your child's areas of strength and
those areas that may require support.
The
interviews will be conducted in a relaxed, friendly manner. Your
cooperation in arranging to be at the classroom at the agreed time with
your child is appreciated. Parents/guardians are asked to remain in the
room to answer a parent questionnaire.
- MONDAY
and TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th and 12th
To ensure your child a comfortable and happy move from home to school,
Langley School District uses a system referred to as a "staggered
entry". For these two days children will attend one mini–session with a
smaller group of kindergarten students than will normally be in the
classroom. Please see your child’s scheduled time on page 2 of this
notice.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH
ALL
children will be attending kindergarten on a daily basis. 8:55 am to
11:25 a.m. for the morning class and 12:10 pm to 2:45 pm for the
afternoon class. Please refer to page 2 of this letter.
A supply list is enclosed so that you may purchase the necessary
supplies for kindergarten, if you did not purchase pre-ordered supplies
this spring through Edu-Pac. Please do not label your
child’s school supplies as crayons, glue, etc. are used communally in
class. The teachers will label scrapbooks and journals. Supplies must be
brought with you to your interview on September 6, 7, or 8.
A small fee will be collected in September for cooking
and arts and craft projects.
- To
Be Supplied by ALL families:
- Rubber soled, slip-on runners (no black rubber
soles please) to keep at school for gym and wearing inside. Please
label with your child's name.
- A large backpack for carrying books/papers that can
hold a home reading folder, which is 9” by 12”. Please put an
identifying tag/mark on your child’s backpack, so they can recognize it
easily. For safety reasons, please put his/her name under the flap on
the inside of the backpack.
